My research is focused on biologic therapies in moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. The main area of work will involve assessing the clinical effectiveness of biologic therapies under real life conditions, outside the context of randomised trial. This would involve directly comparing the three biologic therapies (etanercept, adalimumab and ustekinumab) currently approved in the UK for the treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis regarding treatment responses and induction of remission in a large longitudinal observational cohort study. Furthermore, I aim to identify specific demographic and clinical factors that correlate with response to the biologic therapies. The psoriasis population data will be utilised from the British Association of Dermatologists Biologic Interventions Register (BADBIR), a UK and Republic of Ireland based prospective, longitudinal, observational web-based pharmacovigilance register.

I graduated from Cairo University in 2012 with BSc (Honours with distinction) degree in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Clinical Pharmacy). During this time, I was given the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant within the Clinical Pharmacy department; which sparked my interest in medical statistics and pharmacoepidemiology. In September 2013, I was awarded with the President's Doctoral Scholars award from the University of Manchester to develop skills in pharmacoepidemiological research whilst examining the use of biologic therapies in the management of psoriasis. I completed my PhD in August 2017.
