Personal profile

Overview

Mexican economist and Ph.D. candidate in Development Economics & Development Policy at the University of Manchester.

I enjoy doing empirical analyses and policy-oriented research. My interests are at the intersection of labour, gender and development economics. My research is largely centered on Mexico, but I have also worked in research projects related to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

At Oxford Policy Management, I collaborated in the project "Data and Evidence to End Extreme Poverty" by writing a working paper about poverty dynamics in Bangladesh. This research initiative is also supported by UK Aid, The World Bank, and a consortium of the Universities of Cornell, Copenhagen, and Southampton.

At the Global Development Institute, I collaborated in a research project commissioned by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom. The report presents key governance and development indicators of Zimbabwe compared to African countries with similar levels of economic development.

I specialize in the following research topics:

  • Development economics: Structural transformation.
  • Poor economics: Poverty dynamics, multi-dimensional poverty.

  • Gender economics: Female labour participation, gender gaps, gender norms.

  • Labour economics: Informality, Sectoral distribution of employment.

In my doctoral thesis I am studying
the U-shaped relationship between economic development and female labour force participation developed by Claudia Goldin. My research project is under the supervision of Prof. David Fielding and Prof. Upasak Das.
