Overview

James Roldan Silva Reyes completed a Bachelor of Science in Statistics at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) in 2007 and a Master of Science in Statistics at the same institution in 2013. His research interests include survey methodology and operations, structural equation modeling, longitudinal data analysis, item response theory, time-series analysis and forecasting, statistics education, and data analytics.

He is currently pursuing a PhD in Social Statistics at the University of Manchester (UoM), United Kingdom, under the supervision of Dr. Alexandru Cernat and Dr. Todd K. Hartman. His doctoral research focuses on data quality in survey panel data, particularly on reliability measurement for handling measurement error.

He has conducted numerous statistical training courses and has worked on survey research projects with various government agencies and private organizations, including the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI), the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the Department of Agriculture (DA), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP).

Before joining UoM, he was an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), UPLB, where he taught courses in social statistics, survey designs and operations, structural equation modeling, statistical consulting, and data analytics. He also served as head of the Statistical Computing Division of INSTAT and held various administrative positions, including Assistant College Secretary, College Secretary, and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), UPLB. He has received several academic distinctions, including the UPLB Outstanding Teacher Award (OTA) for the Physical Sciences, the UPLB Centennial Professorial Chair Lecture Award, the One UP Faculty Grant for Outstanding Teaching and Public Service in Statistics, and the UP International Publication Award (IPA).
