Biography

Dr Jasem Tarawneh is a lecturer in Commercial and Intellectual Property Law at the School of Law, University of Manchester. Jasem worked for a number of years as a corporate lawyer before finishing his PhD on the legal and economic justifications for trade marks protection under European Law. He currently teaches Intellectual Property Law, International Commercial Arbitration and Company Law.

His main areas of research are Intellectual Property Law, Law and Economics, Branding and Globalization, Regulation and Market access as well as Alternative Dispute Settlement Mechanisms with an emphasis on International Commercial Arbitration. Jasem has a number of publications in those areas of the law and his latest project is a book that primarily focuses on brands and their impact on market access, regulation and innovation.

In his capacity as a commercial lawyer and as an academic, he has worked and continues to work with a number of distinguished international organisations. He currently holds the position of a Legal Academic Associate at Kings Chambers.

Jasem is an experienced PhD supervisor with 7 PhD completions to date. He has also chaired various PhD examination committees both outside and inside the UK, and has acted as an external PhD examiner on numerous occasions. Jasem has also been appointed as an external examiner for UG & PG programmes for a number of UK and International universities.
