Personal profile

Overview

I am a doctoral candidate in Social Anthropology funded by the ESRC (NWSSDTP). I conducted my 12-month ethnographic research with an NGO working on menstrual health and hygiene in both the UK (August 2022-January 2023) and Uganda (February 2023 - August 2023). My doctoral thesis specifies the different kinds of subject formation (in a Foucauldian sense) that are being produced through the practices of NGOs targeting girls’ menstrual health and hygiene in rural Uganda.

Teaching

I'm experienced in teaching undergraduate students in social anthropology on the first year courses Introduction to Ethnographic Reading (2023-2024) and Key Ideas in Social Anthropology (2024-2025). I designed and delivered student-led tutorials with built in flexibility to respond to each tutorial group's learning requirements. I have experience marking short essays (1,200 words) on both modules.

Student feedback:

'I also loved Jennifer Moore's tutorials, I felt they really helped consolidate my knowledge of the lecture and understand the required readings– my fave tutorial of this semester!!'

'I really enjoyed Jen's tutorial groups. Loved that she had interactive activities and genuinely wanted to hear our opinions and then helped us build on them and discuss with other classmates. Really lovely person and helped a lot in office hours.'

'She was very welcoming and made everyone feel comfortable in the tutorial which helped everyone speak more. Her office hours were also very helpful and she helped me a lot when preparing for my essay.'

'Promotes discussion and alternative arguments to engage us.'
