Personal profile

Overview

I am currently a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, the University of Manchester.  (Fully funded PhD positions available!)

I am generally interested in the connection and alignment between large scale AI systems and human brain. I am recently extending my research on how such alignment may support patients with neuro-degenerative diseases. One specific area I am currently working in is brain computer interface,  where I study how brain activities can be decoded to reconstruct lingusitic and visual perception with foundational AI models. Another area that I am trying to build future research around is foundation models specifically for health care. I collect and experiment with neuro-imaging data recorded by fMRI, EEG and MEG. I publish and review papers in top-tier AI conferences and journals including NeurIPS, AAAI, IJCAI, EMNLP and TNNLS etc.

Prior to my UoM job, I conducted postdoc researcher adviced by Prof. Dr. Marie-Francine Moens in Department of Computer Science, KU Leuven, Belgium from August 2022 to Augutst 2024, when I was funded by the ERC Advanced Project CALCULUS under Horizon 2020. Before that, I worked as an Senior R&D engineer in Baidu, China.

Prior to working, I got my master and Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Chengqing Zong in Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where I worked at the intersection of computational linguistics and neuolinguistics.
