Personal profile

Overview

I'm a SEED-funded PhD researcher in Human Geography.

Thesis title: "Environmental injustice and the US military in South Korea: geopolitics, post-politics and the new geography of peace"

My research project is supervised by Dr Jamie Doucette, Prof Erik Swyngedouw and Dr Bridget Martin (Anthropology, University of Mississippi).

Biography

I'm a human geographer who is critically engaging in political geography, geopolitics, and environmental politics in East Asia, particularly South Korea. All my works are pursuing critical Korean studies, questioning the discourses and practices of security, peace, development, environment and democracy unfolded in Korean society, at the intersection of political geography, urban political ecology and political philosophy. By doing so, I seek to contribute to developing an alternative understanding of those concepts in the wider context. In my current research project, my interests are as follows: environmental management and governance surrounding the US military bases / the geopolitics-political space relations / the mundane landscapes of colonial and Cold War geopolitics / the geopolitical tradition of Korea.

Before joining the Human Geography program at the University of Manchester, I received a BS in geography, a BA in history, a MS in geography from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, and a MS in geography from the University of Idaho, the US.
