I'm a SEED-funded PhD researcher in Human Geography.
Thesis title: "Environmental injustice and the US military in South Korea: geopolitics, post-politics and the new geography of peace"
My research project is supervised by Dr Jamie Doucette and Prof Erik Swyngedouw. Also, I'm a member of Cities, Politics and Economics (CPE) and Society and Environment (SERG).
I'm a human geographer who is studying geopolitics and political geography of East Asia, particularly South Korea. All my works call security, peace, development, environment and democracy circulated in Korean society in question, pursuing critical Korean studies. By doing so, I seek to contribute to developing the alternative understanding of those concepts in the wider context. Including my current research project, my research interests are as follows: the environmental pollution as a burden-sharing in the US-Korean relationship / the geostrategy of South Korean developmental state / the formation of the Korean geography in the 1940s to 1960s / the landscapes of the colonial and Cold War geopolitics.
Before joining in the Human Geography program in the University of Manchester, I've received a BS in geography, a BA in history, a MS in geography from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, and a MS in geography from the University of Idaho, the US.
I've previously participated in the research projects, such as "The study on contested place names", "Beyond the geopolitics of peninsula", "National ATALS of Korea", "Regional development on the basis of network city-system and cooperative local governance in the Youngnam region", and so on, as a research assistant.
