Personal profile

Biography

I am a Reader (Associate Professor) in Fashion Education and Social Value in the Department of Materials, where I lead on curriculum innovation, civic engagement, and graduate futures in fashion business education. I currently serve as Discipline Head of Education for Fashion Business and Technology, shaping strategy and quality in teaching, learning, and student experience.

My research and scholarship focus on sustainable supply chains, digital transformation, and the social value of fashion education. I am Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow and elected Council Member of the Textile Institute.

Key projects include:

  • Back to Baselines, a UKRI-funded project reframing Lean as a collaborative learning system to prepare UK textile manufacturers for digital and green transformation.
  • Making Net Zero Happen, a Pathfinder short course developed with industry partners and Flexible Learning at Manchester, advancing professional education in fashion and textiles sustainability. https://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/online-blended-learning/campaigns/net-zero-textiles/
  • Ongoing sector leadership through the Textile Institute, UKFT, Textile Centre of Excellence and collaborative initiatives with industry partners.

I am author of Digital Fashion Business: Technology and Innovation across the Fashion Industry (Routledge, 2024) and Artificial Intelligence in the Fashion Business: Transforming the Industry through Sustainable Innovation (forthcoming, 2026).

Prior to academia, I worked for 18 years in global sourcing and supply chain leadership roles, primarily with Marks & Spencer and international partners, where I specialised in sustainable systems approaches, technical innovation, and early adoption of CAD/CAM and PLM technologies.

My career now combines industrial expertise, pedagogical innovation, and civic purpose to advance the role of fashion and textiles education in addressing global challenges of sustainability, equity, and future skills.
