Personal profile

Biography

I am a Lecturer in Education and Deputy Programme Director for the MA in Educational Leadership in the Manchester Institute of Education.

I am a member of the Critical Education Leadership and Policy (CELP) RSG and my research interests include school leader retention, parental engagement, school governance and education policy and my current work focuses on the relationship between these. I adopt a mainly qualitative approach in my research and am particularly interested in the role played by identity and biographies and how these can shape actors’ experiences of education.

I have considerable experience of teaching in higher education and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). I teach mainly on the MA Educational Leadership programme (on the units Contemporary Issues in Educational Leadership and School Improvement) and the research methods units (Engaging with Education Research and Research Methods II) that support the MA Education programmes in MIE.

I supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate dissertation students and although I am not currently in a position to act as a primary supervisor for PhD students I am interested in supporting in a secondary role.

I am also school governor in a federation of maintained infant and junior schools, which helps to keep me informed about current education policy and practices.
