Research interests

  • Major Research topicsFlame propagation in mixing layers (e.g. triple flames). Ignition and extinction fronts in premixed combustion. Turbulent combustion. Stability of flames. Droplet combustion in near-critical conditions. Convective mixing, ignition and combustion of fuel pockets. Ignition and development of premixed flames under gravity.
  • Fields of competence: Combustion, fluid mechanics, numerical and asymptotic methods, transport problems.
  • Investigation approach: numerical and perturbation methods

Opportunities

Some Phd theses completed under my sole supervision: in 2006 (Paul sparks), in 2007 (Samina Ali), in 2009 (Faisal Al-Malki), and 2015 (Philip Pearce) . I welcome any Phd candidate interested in stability problems in continuum and fluid mechanics, and in  reaction-diffusion problems.  In particular turbulent combustion and flame propagation under the effect of various inhomogeneities (flow, compostion, temperature), with an approach based on analytical  and numerical techniques.
