John Hassard is Professor of Organisational Analysis at Alliance MBS. Previously he taught at the London Business School and the universities of Cardiff and Keele, where he was Head of the School of Management. He was also previously Fellow in Management Learning at the Judge Business School, Cambridge University. He has published 20 books and over 100 refereed articles in journals such as Academy of Management Review, British Journal of Industrial Relations, Human Relations, Industrial Relations, Journal of Management Studies and Organization Studies. Before commencing an academic career Professor Hassard worked as an equities dealer on the Northern Stock Exchange.
Professor Hassard's main research interests lie in the areas of organisational analysis and corporate change. For the former, he is interested in historical, philosophical and sociological approaches to organisation studies, notably contributing to debates on paradigms, labour processes, time, actor networks, historiography and post-modernism. For the latter, his work relates to corporate strategy, change management and organizational development . This work often takes an international dimension, as with studies of organizational restructuring in Chinese state-owned enterprises and corporate reform in American, British and Japanese multinationals. Professor Hassard has received over £6m in funding for research in connection with these and other studies; from, for example, the Economic and Social Research Council, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Department of Trade and Industry, the British Council, the Department of Health, and the United Nations. His research has resulted in the publication of 20 books, 70 chapters in edited collections, and 100 articles in refered academic journals such as the Acedemy of Management Review, Industrial Relations, the British Journal of Industrial Relations, Organisation Studies, the Journal of Management Studies, and Human Relations. Professor Hassard holds a Doctorate from Aston University, a Higher Doctorate from Manchester University, and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Oulu, Finland. A former Fellow of Cambridge University and the London Business School, and previously Head of the Management School at Keele University, he serves on the editorial boards of several major academic journals.
