Biography

I am Head of the Nuclear Physics Group (http://www.nuclear.manchester.ac.uk/) in the School of Physics & Astronomy. I was Director of the Industrial Doctorate Centre in NUclear Engineering (2008-2018), Project Manager for Project Dalton (2003-2005) and then Director of Education in the Dalton Nuclear Institute (http://www.dalton.manchester.ac.uk/) (2005-2011). I came to Manchester in 1986 following post-doctoral research at Oxford University and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. My research interests are in laser spectroscopy of radioactive atoms. This work is carried out the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland and at the ISOLDE facility, CERN, Geneva.

I helped establish the Nuclear Technology Education Consortium (www.ntec.ac.uk) in 2004-2005 and then was the University of Manchester Course Director for the NTEC MSc in Nuclear Science and Technology (2005-2017).
