Overview
My project focuses on competing forms of grassroots migrant reception activity in South East Kent, UK. Having conducted multi-sited fieldwork among groups ranging from grassroots 'humanitarian' volunteers to committed anti-migrant activists, I explore how ‘small boat’ migration on the Kent coast is encountered by activists and local residents as an issue around which broader questions of national belonging and identity are contested.
