Biography

Joseph Lampel is Eddie Davies Professor of Enterprise and Innovation Management at Manchester Business School, University of Manchester.  He joined Manchester Business School in October 2014.    Joseph holds a BSc in Physics from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and an MSc in Technology Policy from Université de Montréal.     He received his doctorate in Strategic Management from McGill University, Montreal, in 1990.  Following his graduate studies Joseph taught for seven years at the Stern School of Business, New York University.  Joseph subsequently moved to the United Kingdom where he held positions at the University of St. Andrews, the University of Nottingham, the Cass Business School, City University London, before joining the Manchester Business School.   Joseph is the co-author and co-editor of five books, and more than 50 scholarly and practitioner articles.   He has led a number of projects among them a NESTA funded project on ‘Stimulating innovations through competitions, ESRC funded project on ‘Knowledge Integration, Project Practice and New Organisational Forms’, and EPSRC ‘Learning and Business Performance in Project-Based Organisations’.    His study of the economic performance of UK employee-owned businesses, funded by John Lewis Partnership, and the UK Department for Business, Innovation, and Skills, has been extensively used by the government to develop new policies for encouraging employee ownership in the private and public sectors.   Joseph has consulted and worked with a wide variety of organizations, including EMI Music Group, Halcrow, ABB, GlaxoSmithKline, Hagemeyer, and the International Chamber of Commerce.
