Biography

I am Professor of Language and Education in the Manchester Institute of Education and currently the Interim Head of the School of Environment, Education and Development.

I have been at the University of Manchester since 2005. Before this, I worked at the University of Leeds where I completed masters and doctoral degrees. At Manchester, I teach primarily on the MA TESOL degree. This teaching is focused on the psychology of language education, and I am also involved with the MA Education for a Sustainable Environment. My research and scholarship is focused on the use of social, ecological and complexity theories to understand language education and multilingualism in a variety of setttings.

Research interests

My research interest is the development of an ecological perspective on education, including language education (TESOL), higher education and sustainability education.
