Overview
Kat is the Senior Technical Specialist for Mass Spectrometry & Separations with overall responsibility for facilities based at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology & the School of Chemistry. The Facility supports research across FSE, the wider university and to external collaborations and customers.
Kat obtained her PhD in 2010 under the supervision of Prof. Roy Goodacre at the University of Manchester. Her PhD focused on the development of bioanalytical techniques for the study of skin diseases with an emphasis on untargeted metabolomics approaches. Following this Kat undertook further post-doctoral positions applying mass spectrometry-based metabolomics for clinical diagnosis/biomarker discovery and biotechnology applications. Subsequently, Kat joined SYNBIOCHEM (https://synbiochem.co.uk) as a member of the Test team where she provided untargeted mass spectrometry expertise as part of the design, build, test, learn pipeline.
