Overview

Dr. Kay Dewhurst specialises in particle accelerator physics, with a focus on beam dynamics, the advancement of accelerator technologies, and their applications across diverse fields. Her research includes the development of beam lines for laser-wakefield sources, the channelling of particles using silicon crystals, and simulations of accelerator systems.

Currently based at the Dalton Cumbrian Facility, Dr. Dewhurst collaborates with visiting scientists from academia and industry, providing expertise in utilising the two on-site ion beam accelerators for a range of research projects.

A recognised contributor to the field, Dr. Dewhurst is also Treasurer of the IoP Particle Accelerators and Beams (PAB) group and a key organiser of the annual PAB Conference, bringing together experts to discuss the latest advancements in particle physics and accelerator technologies.

A former physics teacher and enthusiastic science communicator, Dr. Dewhurst regularly takes part in public engagement activities, inspiring the next generation of scientists by hosting facility tours, leading hands-on workshops, and presenting engaging science shows.

  • PGCE Secondary Education in Physics and Mathematics, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU)
