Biography

Kyriakos received his BSc (1998) and MSc (2000) degrees in Economics from the University of Macedonia, Greece, and obtained his PhD degree (2004) from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, USA. Kyriakos's early research activity has covered a wide range of theoretical and empirical topics in development macroeconomics, with focus on issues that relate to economic growth, fiscal policy, foreign aid, and financial dollarization. In recent years, the economics of crime and the long-run implications of colonialism have become major interests. More recently, he has focused on the functioning of the financial system examining the implications of monetary and macroprudential policies on bank and non-bank lending including their effects on the real economy.
