Laoise is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. She teaches research methods at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and teaches essential nursing skills, leadership and management to pre-registration nurses. Laoise conducts research that aims to adapt and refine evidence-based interventions for minority groups in the UK and majority groups in LMICs. Her research also involves conducting research on functional and treatment outcomes for individuals with psychotic illness and their caregivers. She has formerly led national research endeavours as an active member of the MHNAUK International Mental Health Nursing Research Conference in association with the Royal College of Nursing acting as Chair, Scientific Chair and Committee Member for 6 years.
Laoise is a mental health nurse, academic and researcher. She has worked as a mental health nurse in addictions, eating disorders and community mental health since registering as a nurse in 2001. Her clinical work has primarily involved working as a specialist in early psychosis care completing a PhD in 2012 evaluating the quality of life for people with a first-episode psychosis. Her research interests include evaluating functional outcomes to identify opportunities for enhanced care, evaluating research priorities through public engagement and promoting mental health care in low-resource settings. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, member of Mental Health Nurse Academics UK and the International Early Psychosis Association. She is an editorial board member of the Journal of Psychiaric and Mental Health Nursing.
