Overview

Laoise is a lecturer in the Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. She teaches mainly research-based subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students and clinical decision-making to pre-registration mental health nursing students. Her research involves determining research priorities for early psychosis care, predicting functional recovery following first-episode psychosis and enhancing research capacity in low and middle income countries. She is an active member of the Mental Health Research Group and nationally is a member of Mental Health Nurse Academics UK providing leadership as Chair of the 24th International Mental Health Nursing Research Conference in association with the Royal College of Nursing. 

Biography

Laoise is a mental health nurse, academic and researcher. She has worked as a mental health nurse in addictions, eating disorders and community mental health since registering as a nurse in 2001. Her clinical work has primarily involved working as a specialist in early psychosis care completing a PhD in 2012 evaluating the quality of life for people with a first-episode psychosis. Her research interests include evaluating functional outcomes to identify opportunities for enhanced care, evaluating research priorities through public engagement and promoting mental health care in low-resource settings. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, member of Mental Health Nurse Academics UK and the International Early Psychosis Association. She is an editorial board member of the Journal of Psychiaric and Mental Health Nursing.
