Overview

Lewis is a postdoctoral research associate working within the Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre at the University of Manchester.

Research interests

Understanding the causes of placental dysfunction in Fetal Growth Restriction and Preeclampsia. I have a keen interest in developing treatment strategies which can improve placental function.

Teaching

University of Manchester (2010-present)

• Taught as part of the MRes course in Maternal and Fetal Health. This included 3-day workshops on Genotyping methods and the Use of Animals in research.
• Involved in the direct supervision of undergraduate project student. This included aiding the student with the design of experiments and data analysis.

University of Lancaster (2008-2009)

• Involved in the design and teaching of undergraduate laboratory classes. This included assisting lecturers, helping undergraduate students with their laboratory work and answering any questions.
• College tutor on the board of the senior common room. I had responsibility for mentoring 28 undergraduate students during the academic year 2008-2009 with particular emphasis on helping students with any issues they may have had at University.

Methodological knowledge

Techniques used include in situ placental perfusion, clearance of radio-labelled tracers, stereology, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR and myography
