Overview

Lidia holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Chile (Santiago, Chile) and an MSc in Sociological Research from the University of Manchester, where she currently works as a PhD researcher. Throughout her career she has addressed the political agency of social movements in the global south, studying the tactics and resistance of their actors from an intersectional point of view. She has also been interested in the way social movements confront police repression in contexts of systematic violence. In her PhD research she explores the influence of memory on individuals' resistance to repression through a case study of the "Chile woke up" movement (Supervisors: Dr. Simin Fadaee and Dr. Nick Crossley).

She has participated in several research projects coordinating research teams, analysing quantitative and qualitative data and organising conferences and seminars. She is currently an Teaching Assistant  at the University of Manchester and is part of the organising committee of the Alternative Futures Power and Protest conference. She is also part of the OLES (Observatory of Violence and Social Legitimacy) research center in Chile.
