Personal profile
Overview
As a president's doctoral scholar at the GDI, my research focuses on the Mombasa port expansion with the aim of analyzing the various social, political, and ecological implications of the project. Inspired by recent scholarship in critical infrastructure studies, international political economy, and urban political ecology, my framework attempts to unpack how ongoing infrastructure projects are producing new geographies of urban formation that result from growing dynamics of (geo)political and (geo)economic competition around the city’s infrastructure sector. Moreover, the research hopes to engage with the growing literature on "the Second global cold war", by investigating how growing tensions between the US, China, and their respective allies directly or indirectly affect key logistical nodes in southern contexts.
My Ph.D. Scholarship is a joint initiative between the Universities of Manchester and Melbourne. I am currently under the supervision of Seth Schindler, Kevin Ward, Julie Tian Miao, and Patrick Cobinah.
