Overview

My current research involves the analysis of reasoning used in historical argumentative feminist speeches so as to develop an anti-essentialist line on the so-called feminine style of reasoning, as opposed to the traditional conception of the term, which is strongly essentialist. There is a prima facie tension between analytic philosophy/logic and social sciences’ ideas of reasoning used by women, mostly due to the historically gendered model of rationalism which creates a number of opposing relations, such as male : female, logos : pathos, brain : body which has led to the reasoning of the marginalized being under-researched and assigned less value. The above-mentioned tension can be overcome by combining the anti-essentialism and naturalism of Quine with feminist theory.

For my doctoral project I was awarded the Stuart Hall PhD Scholarship.
