Personal profile

Overview

I am a Mexican physician and global health expert affiliated with The Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health, the Center for Global Health Equity of the University of Michigan, and the University of Manchester. I hold a Master of Public Health from the University of Liverpool and a Doctorate in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. My career is dedicated to advancing health equity and improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations through research, policy advocacy, and education.

I have served in various leadership roles, including Director of Operations and Community Programs at Partners in Health Mexico, where I implemented community-based health programs in resource-limited settings. At the Carlos Slim Foundation, I collaborated with a large, multidisciplinary team to respond to the unprecedented public health crisis of COVID-19, including the establishment of a temporary COVID-19 hospital in Mexico City. My research on COVID-19 and Long-COVID has resulted in over a dozen publications in high-impact journals, reflecting my focus on innovative strategies to address health crises.

As an active advocate for global health, I have represented civil society at the United Nations, promoting equitable health policies and social justice initiatives. I also serve as the Honorary Director of the Global & Humanitarian Health Chapter of the Mexican Society of Public Health, where I promote collaboration and knowledge exchange across institutions and stakeholders in global health.

My commitment to research is demonstrated through my extensive publication record, including over 30 peer-reviewed articles and two books. My recent book, "En busca de la iluminación: Una breve introducción a las similitudes entre el budismo y la psicología moderna," explores the connections between Buddhist principles and modern psychology. I am currently working on my next book, "The Role of Compassion in Medicine, Global Health, and Humanitarian Health," which will delve into the essential role of empathy and compassion in healthcare.
