Since 2019, I have worked as full-time lecturer in HRM and Development. I am based in the Management and Governance in Development teaching cluster of the Global Development Institute (GDI). Prior to this, I worked in GDI as a Senior Tutor from 2016 to 2019. Since joining the staff at GDI, I have completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) and was recently awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Before commencing work as a lecturer, I completed both my MSc HRM (2012-13) and PhD Development Policy and Management (2013-16) in GDI. My doctoral research was focused on transnational HRM in developing economy contexts. More specifically, my thesis explored the transfer of HR practices from MNCs in China to host country contexts in Africa. This is an emergent area of international importance and I am in the process of developing a research agenda surrounding the quest to build new styles of international working arrangements.
My main teaching responsibilities in GDI involve convening and delivering postgraduate modules on human resource practice, managing quality in development, and research methods. At programme level, I co-direct the distance learning MSc programme in HRM and Development. Further, I am responsible for the Learning Enhancement Programme for the on-campus MSc HRM (ID) students. This enhancement programme is delivered through experiential learning experiences involving practitioner-led guest lectures and visits to organisations based within the UK. I am also an experienced dissertation supervisor and have supervised over 44 students to the successful completion of their MSc dissertations.
Outside of Manchester, I have undertaken professional work in a wide range of countries including: Belgium, China, Cyprus, France and Ghana. This professional work includes leading overseas MSc fieldwork visits to Cyprus.
