PhD projects

The Roberts lab investigates immune system dynamics which influence health and disease pathways operating at mucosal barrier sites (such as the gastrointestinal tract) and cardiovascular tissues (such as the heart and vasculature). Specifically, we aim to uncover and explore interactive networks which underlie communicative and immunoregulatory axes between these sites.

Personal profile

Overview

Biography

I obtained a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Bristol (UoB), followed by an MSc in Veterinary Parasitology and Ecology also, from UoB. Subsequently, I earned my PhD in the lab of Murray Selkirk at Imperial College, on the Wellcome Trust's Molecular and Cellular basis of Infection and Immunity programme, where I investigated the immune response to helminth infection and allergic airway inflammation, focusing on non-neuronal cholinergic signaling pathways utilised by immune cells, including type 2 Innate lymphoid cells (ILC2). I then moved to King's College London where I trained as a postdoc with Graham Lord, expanding my experience in the study of mucosal immunology, with a focus on the functions and roles of adaptive and innate lymphoid lineages, particularly in the context of gastrointestinal disease. Later, I moved to the University of Manchester to continue my postdoctoral training with the Lord Lab and as an 'honorary'' member of Matt Hepworth's group within the Division of Immunology, Immunity to Infection and Respiratory Medicine (DIIIRM). In 2025, I became a Research Fellow within DIIIRM and am now in the process of establishing an independent research group within the division.
