Overview

Biography

I am a clinician-scientist interested in molecular mechanisms and treatment of cardiovascular and renal disease, in particular – hypertension. I hold a chair of cardiovascular medicine at the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences of the University of Manchester. I regularly publish in top journals such as Nature, Lancet, Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, American Journal of Human Genetics, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Circulation and Hypertension. My current research programme is well-funded externally - primarily by British Heart Foundation and Kidney Research UK. Since 2014 I have been a member of the Scientific Council of International Society of Hypertension (ISH) and in 2019 I was elected the next President of ISH – I will commence the 2-year presidency term in May 2020. I have been a member of Editorial boards for leading hypertension journals and I currently act as a chairman of Journal of Hypertension Board of Management. I hold an honorary clinical contract in Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust – my clinical practise focuses on management of cardiovascular risk factors. I am a holder of Clinical Excellence Award
