I'm a lecturer in East Asian history, focusing on the history of modern China and its global connections. My first book (Pivot of China: Spatial Politics and Inequality in Modern Zhengzhou) was published in 2024. I've also published on a range of topics from 1940s China, including famine, the Chinese Civil War, transport in Northwest China, and children and young people under Japanese occupation.
Prior to arriving at the University of Manchester I lectured in Chinese history at the University of Lincoln and the University of Oxford.
I am currently the history department's schools/colleges liaison, working to build connections with schools and colleges across Greater Manchester. Feel free to get in touch by email with any relevant queries.
