Research interests

  • The processes by which insulin resistance and glucose intolerance predispose individuals to premature macrovascular disease. This research spans data science, epidemiology and biological markers to enable improved risk identification and stratification for earlier preventative intervention.
  • The development novel interventions across primary and secondary care to measure and optimise care utilising district-wide electronic patient information systems to target and monitor intervention programmes. Using implementation science techniques to provide evidence for the creation of proactive contact centre based diabetes management and prevention systems.
  • Creating software platforms to facilitate the running of clinical trials utilising linked electronic health information systems. These linked systems support rapid protocol design, feasibility and recruitment into conventional and real-world trials at scale (see: www.nweh.co.uk)
