Analytic Taswib: Revisiting Truth in Islamic Theology

I make a case for truth pluralism in Islamic jurisprudence which aligns with Islamic beliefs on the nature of the Divine Will.

My research examines the metaphysical nature of divine law, our epistemic access to it, and its theological implications. I propose that divine law is mind-independent but not fully accessible to human reason. This supports the taswib position, which holds that multiple, even contradictory, jurisprudential truths can be correct.

However, this view seems to conflict with the theological doctrine of divine preordination. To resolve this, I propose a framework that reconciles the multiplicity of jurisprudential truths with theological realism. This allows for different yet theologically viable interpretations of divine law.

My project contributes to Islamic jurisprudence and analytic theology. It challenges traditional views on truth and law while offering a new way to understand religious truths. By engaging with analytic philosophy, my research provides a systematic approach to legal reasoning in Islam. This work advances contemporary discussions on truth pluralism and its relevance to Islamic thought.
