Personal profile

Since September 2022, I am an Urban Studies Foundation Research Fellow based at the Geography Department, University of Manchester. My research seeks to understand how refugees and locals work together on an everyday basis building grassroots infrastructures of social reproduction, i.e. spaces and communities that materially and affectively support their everyday lives in the city.

I have received my PhD in Geography and Planning from the School of Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in December 2019 and my Master’s degree on Global Urban Development and Planning from the School of Environment, Education and Development at the University of Manchester. Over the last years, I have worked as an Adjunct Lecturer in universities in Greece (e.g. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Ioannina) and Europe (e.g. Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space, Technical University of Vienna).

Research interests

I am an interdisciplinary urban scholar whose work spans Architecture, Urban Planning, Geography, and Urban Studies to interrogate the relationship between urban space and politics. My research focuses on how cities can be reimagined and realized as critical terrains of politicisation. It is structured around two broad areas: (i) I focus on a critique of contemporary planning and governance arrangements, exploring the situated, hybrid and uneven ways in which neoliberal and post-political rationalities are being played out in different urban contexts; and (ii) I study the socio-spatial dimensions of grassroots urban politicisation, exploring the possibilities, challenges and limitations for emancipatory urban politics and the multiple spaces and times of re-politicisation through a feminist perspective.
