Overview

Max Mason is an Audio Visual and Media Technician at the University of Manchester. He is primarily based in the Alliance Manchester Business School, while also supporting other locations including Humanities Bridgford Street, Arthur Lewis, Waterloo Place, and the Executive Education Centre.

Max specialises in problem-solving, general AV operations, and sound engineering, providing technical support across a range of learning and event spaces.

Biography

Max studied Sound Engineering and Music Production at the University of Huddersfield. During his time there, he explored a wide range of topics and specialisms within sound engineering and the wider AV sector. As part of his degree, Max completed a dissertation focusing on the implementation and technical considerations of modern live sound rigs and systems, as used by some of today’s largest touring bands.

Alongside his studies, Max gained extensive hands-on experience in the industry. He completed a placement year at the University of Huddersfield’s music studios, where he supported academic courses, provided technical assistance to both staff and students, assisted with conferences featuring high-profile guests, and developed an in-depth understanding of the day-to-day operation of twelve industry-standard studios.

Max also worked as an Events Technician for the University of Huddersfield Students’ Union. In this role, he acted as the lead technician on events ranging from small social gatherings to full live band performances. His responsibilities included equipment setup, front-of-house and monitor mixing, and overall technical delivery. He became a key member of the team, and after leaving the role, returned to assist with interviewing and training candidates to fill his position.
