Personal profile
Overview
My research emerged from the rise of ‘rights-based to development’ in which encompassed citizens to participate in policy and planning process. The disintegration between planning policies and community participatory practices in improving the public infrastructure continues to ensue within informal settlements. My primary focus, however, is to research the relations of this phenomenon of community participation and urban governance between the informal urban fishing communities and the state.
My research aims to understand the synergies between participatory practices of state-led and community-driven initiatives as well as the tensions between the two approaches in shaping the public infrastructure and services in coastal communities.
It examines how the provisions of state-led initiatives compared with the communities’ experiences as well as the explorations of the formal and informal relations in shaping the communities and further contextualise local-level participatory planning and its implication towards urban development in urban-rural Indonesia.
