I would be pleased to supervise work on representations of AIDS in American culture, American gay and lesbian writing and visual representation, African American writing and film, psychoanalysis, gender, and queer theory.

My general area of expertise is in twentieth-century American literature and film.
My most recent research has been on the cultural representations of AIDS, focusing on aspects of sexuality, the development of personal and cultural identities through narrative, and the work of mourning, primarily in late twentieth-century American culture.
My current research includes articles on James Baldwin and further work on AIDS activism and representation.
