Morwenna Senior

I am currently a Wellcome 4Ward North Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry at the University of Manchester. 

I completed my medical training at the University of Oxford and University College London. Since then, my career has combined clinical practice with research through an Academic Foundation Programme in Oxford, and an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Psychiatry in Manchester. 

My interests lie in public mental health research that aims to understand how we can prevent mental illness, get early treatment to those who need it, and address inequalities in access to mental health support.

My doctoral project will examine care pathways for perinatal mental illness, identifying opportunities for early detection and treatment, and developing an intersectional understanding of inequalities in access to care. I will use a mixed-methods approach to address my research aim, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. 

I have experience in the use of electronic healthcare records data (CPRD, HES) for observational research, harnessing the power of these datasets to understand the healthcare needs of large, nationally representative samples. My previous research has used a varied methodological toolkit, giving me experience in meta-analysis, the development and validation of risk prediction tools, health economic modelling, and the use of natural language processing for electronic healthcare records research.  

The lead supervisor for my doctoral project is Dr Matthias Pierce, my co-supervisors are Prof Kathryn Abel, Dr Holly Hope, Prof Penny Bee, and Dr Ryc Aquino (Newcastle University).
