Overview
Mabel Sánchez Barrioluengo is Senior Lecturer in Science Policy and Innovation at the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester since December 2018. She is the Deputy Director of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research. Previously she worked as Research Fellow at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission as part of the Unit of Human Capital and Employment. She has a degree in Statistics and holds a PhD from the Technical University of Valencia and INGENIO (CSIC-UPV) with a particular focus on higher education studies. She has been a Visiting Scholar at CORD (Arizona State University, Phoenix, USA), CHEPS (University of Twente, The Netherlands) and MIoIR (University of Manchester, UK).
Her main research interests are in the economics of education where she looks at the role of universities in regional development and economic growth, with a specific interest in knowledge exchange and university-society collaborations. Her second area of research relates to digital transformation, specifically by looking at the intertwin between the adoption of advanced digital technologies and skills in companies.
Her research has been published in several international journals such as Research Policy, Scientometrics or Science and Public Policy.
