Biography

Nadia Papamichail is a Professor at Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester and a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute. She has previously held research posts at the University of Leeds and the School of Computer Science of the University of Manchester as well as a visiting lectureship at Warwick Business School. Her PhD research was selected for presentation at the House of Commons ('Special Reception for Britain's Top Younger Scientists, Engineers and Technologists').

Nadia’s research focuses on improving organisational decision making practices through the use of technologies. This includes research interests in the design, development and evaluation of decision analytics tools for analysing and improving decision processes. She has served as principal investigator for an EPSRC-funded project on ‘good practice in decision making’, which was in collaboration with British Telecom. She has just completed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with DWF, that was funded by Innovate UK. She is currently participating in REMESH (Research Network on Emergency Resources Supply Chain), a Horizon2020 EU-funded project.

Nadia received the Faculty of Humanities’ Outstanding Teaching Award 2019-2020. She has co-authored a Cambridge University Press book 'Decision Behaviour, Analysis and Support'. She has taught on the Full-time MBA, Executive MBA, Masters and specialist executive programmes.

Nadia is Chair of the Decision Analysis special interest group (DASIG) that runs under the auspices of the Operational Research Society. Under this capacity, she actively organises workshops and conference streams to promote the discipline of Decision Analysis in the UK and abroad. She regularly delivers invited presentations and seminars at various conferences and events. She is a founding committee member and acting co-Chair of Women in OR and Analytics (WORAN) and Chair of the Mentoring WORAN sub-committee.

Nadia is the elected Secretary/Treasurer of the Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) Section of INFORMS, the leading US Association for Operations Research and Analytics. She is an elected Member of the Council of the INFORMS Decision Analysis Society (DAS) and member of the Society of Decision Professionals (SDP) Learning Exchange Program Committee. In her capacity as an academic director for the Law and Technology Initiative (LaTI), she actively engages with legal services firms.

Research interests

Decision analysis, decision behaviour, decision support, digital strategy, explainable analytics, knowledge management, environmental decision making and crisis management.
