Overview

My ESRC-funded PhD project explores formal and informal everyday learning stories of Myanmar youth refugees and migrants in Thailand. Little research has been done to understand how youth refugees and migrants learn outside of organised learning settings and what kinds of learning experiences refugees and migrants value for their development. This research will collect both visual and oral stories of how formal and informal learning experiences connect in youth refugees' everyday lives, and how these experiences support their development. This PhD collects the learning stories from the refugees and migrants themselves, and staff and managers of refugee education providers using the participatory digital storytelling method, interviews and observation. This research aims to produce knowledge that refugee and migrant communities and education providers can apply for the development of young people's valued capabilities.
