Personal profile

Research interests

Nicola is an experienced Research Associate at the University of Manchester, where she has built her research around improving the experiences of patients with long-term conditions. She has a passion for developing and testing patient-reported outcome measures that can help shape more personalised and empowering approaches to healthcare.

Her journey in health services research began with her PhD, which explored patient empowerment in long-term conditions. Since then, she has contributed to and led a wide range of studies, from care planning and patient safety to digital health, multimormidity, and co-designing interventions with underserved communities. Nicola involves patients and the public at every stage of her work - something that has been recognised through several national awards and a Fellowship.

Nicola is now part of a major national collaboration (the ACCORD - MLTC Project), where she is working to develop practical, scalable ways to measure and improve care coordination for people living with multiple conditions.
