Overview

Nicolás is a PhD researcher in Tyndall Centre for Climate Change research, at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on the evaluation of circular economy policies through a life cycle thinking approach to promote a just transition towards sustainability in developing countries.

Biography

Nicolás holds a MSc in Sustainable Development with a major in Energy and Materials from Utrecht University - The Netherlands. In his master’s thesis, he elaborated a set of scenarios based on circular economy policies and initiatives in Santiago de Chile to evaluate their quantitative effects on the indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals. He has a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica - Chile. In his undergraduate dissertation he developed a method to design and optimize the operation of a recycling system in the context of a university campus.

Previous to his PhD, Nicolás worked in the private and public sector as waste management engineer and sustainability consultant. He has performed as an associated lecturer in sustainability in several Chilean universities.
