Personal profile

Overview

I am a Professor of Oral Biomaterials Sciences and currently the Head of the Division of Dentistry part of the School of Medical Sciences.

I lead a dynamic and sizeable group of Postgraduate Research students at PhD and MPhil level at various research aspects of Dental Biomaterials, especially in resin-composites, ceramics and implants. I also supervise a number of Postgraduate Taught students completing an MSc in Endodontics, Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Implantology for their respective Theses.

Biography

I was born in North Greece and came to Manchester for higher education studies.  I completed a B.Sc (Hons) in Chemistry at Manchester Metropolitan University.  I then developed an interest in medical research, partly due to the fact that my father is a dentist, which led me to do an M.Phil in the School of Pharmacy and a Ph.D in the School of Dentistry, both of them at The University of Manchester.

I think Manchester is a vibrant and exciting place and I get the opportunity to indulge in my other passion, which is basketball.  I was Club Captain and Head Coach of The University of Manchester Basketball Club and proud to be a member of the prestigious XXI University of Manchester Club . I also coached Stockport Lapwings (EBL, Div II). Currently, I coach Stockport Atlas.

I am also the Head Governor for Ladybridge Primary School in Cheadle Hulme, a role that I cherish and enjoy interacting and assisting the local community.
