I am a Lecturer developing an international profile in Global Health research.
I am leading a programme of research looking at developing a research participation framework to improve women's participation in research and generate real-world evidence.
This is expected to improve the access of ethnic minority and immigrant women in high-income countries to existing health, social, and community services. My research interests also explore how the strengths of ethnic minority-led non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and faith-based organisations (FBOs) can be used to address health inequalities.
Since 2012, my research focus has aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG -5) on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, SDG 3 on Universal Access to healthcare globally, and SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities.
I continue to undertake community-based action research, underpinned by Black Feminist Thought, that will practically influence policy and practice and improve health outcomes for women from ethnic minority and immigrant groups in the UK and globally across various health issues.
I am primarily a global health researcher with a background in public health education and promotion and social statistics. My research interests span a range of public health issues, ultimately focusing on improving women's access to health and social care services.
I am keen to enhance the use of health services by people from immigrant populations in the UK by working with healthcare professionals and service user groups to improve care pathways. Findings from my research continue to highlight a significant need for collaborative work between statutory service providers, commissioners, and leaders of immigrant NGOs and faith-based organisations.
My research focuses on strengthening the health workforce and enhancing interprofessional collaboration internationally. I am currently working with colleagues in Nigeria on a project to build the capacity of community health workers to conduct research within their health posts and in rural communities.
