Biography

Paloma Yáñez Serrano is a PhD Researcher in Social Anthropology with Visual Media at the University of Manchester. She works at the Institute of Anthropology and Ethnology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (UAM). Her research focuses on labourers’ embodied adaptations to industrial agriculture and changing landscape in Almería, in southern Spain. She is an award-winning independent ethnographic filmmaker and social anthropologist interested in the methods of adaptation humans develop to address the changing environment, technology and political conflicts. Paloma is now working on the research project EmCliC 'Embodying Climate Change: Transdisciplinary Research on Urban Overheating'. She is responsible for conducting ethnographic research in Madrid. She is particularly interested on local manifestations of resilience mechanisms, as well as the social networks of support that help communities cope with thermal stress.
