Biography

Patrick has expertise in construction management (CM) and quantity surveying (QS) research, practice and teaching. He is a research-active academic with publications in leading built environment and occupational safety and health (OSH) journals and conferences. Besides his main research interest - OSH, he is also interested in digital construction, sustainable construction and procurement. His research work has benefited from funds from organisations including the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Research Trust, United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), Council of Heads of Built Environment (CHOBE), B&CE Charitable Trust, and British Council. He is currently leading (as Principal Investigator) a consortium of industry and academic organisations on an EPSRC funded project to develop a novel web-based application for design for OSH.

 

Patrick is a reviewer for research funders (e.g. EPSRC and Newton Fund) and several academic journals (e.g. Safety Science and Construction Management and Economics) and conferences (e.g. Association of Researchers in Construction Management and CIB W099 Conferences). He also acts as external examiner for PhD candidates and a postgraduate course.

 

Patrick has delivered talks at major practitioner events including conferences organised by the Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy.  He is a member of several built environment professional and research associations/groups (e.g. the standard setting committee for the International Construction Measurement Standards (ICMS), the Design for Health Task Group and Musculoskeletal Diseases Task Group of the Health in Construction Leadership Group)).  

Patrick has held academic posts within the built environment at the University of the West of England, City University London (now City, University of London), University of Wolverhampton, University of West London and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He has also worked in quantity surveying and construction management roles within the construction industry. While working in the industry, he developed commercial digital tools for construction cost estimating, resources extraction, and construction cash flow forecasting.
