Personal profile

Research interests

I am a Biologist with a MSc in Molecular Biotechnology, both graduated at the University of Barcelona. I specialised in Plant Physiology with my PhD, where I studied the implications of photoprotection in plant development under the supervision of Prof. Sergi Munné-Bosch. This gave me a profound background in plant plastid conversion, oxidative stress and plant antioxidants, as well as provided me with the skills to develop and execute projects with non model species, including lily flowers and several fruits. After obtaining my PhD, I remained in the same lab to start developing my career as a Postdoctoral researcher working on fruit physiology and biotechnology. Eager to learn new techniques and to further advance my career, I have moved to the University of Manchester in UK as Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Johnson's lab group to study electon sinks in plants' chloroplasts.

Teaching

My passion for sharing knowledge made me start a role as teaching assistant in the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Barcelona during my doctoral studies, and later as Associate Teacher during my Postdoc. Some of the subjects I participated were Plant Physiology for Biology and Biochemistry undergrads, Control of Plant Metabolism and Development for the Biotechnology BSc. Likewise, for two years I coordinated the Postharvest Biology and Technology subject of the MSc in Environmental Agrobiology. Since moving to Manchester, I started collaborating as teacher in GBL sessions for the Biology BSc and giving a seminar session for the subject Living with Climate Change.

Social responsibility

Making science accessible for everyone is one of my main drivers and for this reason I have participated in outreach sessions organised at the Universities of Barcelona and Mancester. More recently, I have started a new position as Comms Officer for Pint of Science Manchester.
