Overview

I have been a Consultant Rheumatologist at Manchester Royal Infirmary since 2007, and was awarded a Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) Honorary Clinical Chair in 2023 by The University of Manchester's Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health for my contribution to rheumatology, including excellence in research and education.

Biography

I received my undergraduate medical degree from the University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff with Honours, where I also received funding from the Medical Research Council (MRC) to complete an intercalated degree in Biochemistry. I subsequently undertook specialist training in Rheumatology in the Northwest of England. During my specialist training, I completed a Masters in Science degree in Clinical Rheumatology in 2002 and was subsequently awarded a Clinical Research Training Fellowship from the Medical Research Council (MRC) to complete a PhD investigating the genetics of Psoriatic Arthritis at The University of Manchester which I was awarded in 2007.

Since 2007 I have worked as a Consultant Rheumatologist at Manchester Royal Infirmary whilst also holding honorary academic positions at The University of Manchester. I am the musculoskeletal ultrasound lead for the Northwest of England and have a specialist interest in spondyloarthropathies with a dedicated specialist clinic for patients with ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis.

In 2023 I was made an Honorary Professor within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine, and Health at The University of Manchester having been awarded a Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) Clinical Chair.

I am involved in both basic science research in psoriatic arthritis at The University of Manchester and am principal investigator for clinical research studies, both academic and commercial, observational and investigative medicines, Phase II and above, in particular those involving ultrasound and ultrasound guided synovial biopsy studies at the Kellgren Centre for Rheumatology in Manchester Royal Infirmary.
