I am Research Fellow in applied health at Manchester Business School. As part of the NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC Greater Manchester) I am involved in several projects to evaluate the changing landscape of English primary care.
My research also includes work on illness beliefs, coping, risk communication and behaviour change applied to dermatology. I am Co-Investigator on the BRISC RfPB investigating how young people with skin conditions can be supported to self-manage. I am also Section Editor at the British Journal of Dermatology for qualitative research.
My expertise is in qualitative process evaluations of new ways of working in health care organisations and the development/evaluation of interventions to support patient self-management. Before joining MBS I was part of the Manchester Centre for Dermatology researching health service provision for patients with psoriasis. This work has helped to establish qualitative research as a key strand in dermatology through national and international conference contributions across a range of disciplines and publications in high impact international journals.
Other post-doctoral research included patient experiences of long-term conditions (angina, COPD and diabetes) and the organisation and delivery of health services (early detection of cancer, electronic health information, primary care services for learning disability, maternity service organisation, and smoking cessation).
For over a decade prior to becoming a researcher I worked as a programme manager of international collaborative research initiatives.
