Overview

Pete is a Lecturer in the Department of Criminology at The University of Manchester, where he works to produce microcredential courses on aspects of Digital Trust and Security that will be made tailored and made available to a range of organisations and professionals.

Pete’s ESRC-funded PhD research at The University of Manchester investigated the nature, organisation, and regulation of variably illicit tax minimisation in UK professional football. Pete’s broad research interests include financial, white-collar, and organisational crimes, and cyber-crimes.

Pete is a founding member of the Manchester Organisational Non-compliance Initiative (MONI) and holds the role of Early Career Associate at EUROC (the European Society of Criminology Working Group on Organisational Crime). Pete is also a member of the Digital Technologies and Crime research cluster in The University of Manchester’s Centre for Digital Trust and Society, where he has researched the organisation of money laundering (published as a book chapter) and match-fixing via online betting markets. He has also researched political perceptions of so-called ‘county lines’-style drug distribution. Pete has published blog posts with the British Society of Criminology (on fraud in sport) and Policy@Manchester (on furlough fraud).

Research interests

Pete's main research area is financial crimes (e.g. money laundering, tax evasion, fraud etc), but he also has experience conducting research relating to drug policy and the use of digital technologies to facilitate crime and otherwise illicit activity.
