Overview

 

Peter qualified in Medicine from The University of Manchester in 1995 and went on to train in the North West of England in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (ICM). He was one of the first wave of dual specialist trainees in Anaesthesia and ICM which he attained in 2005.

His consultant appointment is at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester Universities NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) where his interests are Critical Care, Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine. Within Critical Care, he has interests in sepsis and the recognition of the sick patient and also has British Society of Echocardiography accreditation in critical care echocardiography. He is immediate past chairman of the Association of North Western Intensive Care Units. He was appointed as Hospital Clinical Information Officer (HCCIO) for Clinical and Scientific Support services in 2018.

He is currently involved in several research projects and is an active member of the Manchester Integrating Medicine and Innovative Technology (MIMIT) group working on innovation in health care. He is the NIHR Clinical Lead for Critical Care and Anaesthesia at Wythenshawe.

He regularly teaches on Advanced Life Support Courses and the Greater Manchester Acute Illness Management course. He also participates in the local Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists tutorial programme. He is a communication skills tutor and OSCE examiner for the University of Manchester Medical School.
