Personal profile
Overview
I'm a lecturer in Modern American History with a focus on Anglo-American culture and politics in the nineteenth century. I have published articles on Thomas Jefferson's legacy in Britain, John Quincy Adams and pro-Confederate activism within Britain during the American Civil War. My first monograph (American Sectionalism in the British Mind 1832-1863) was published by LSU Press in 2017.
In addition to my academic research, i'm also interested in questions of pedagogy within humanities teaching in higher education as well as widenining participation and improving access to those previously unable to study at University.
Prior to arriving at the University of Manchester in the summer of 2022 I previously lectured at the University of Nottingham, Northumbria University and in the American Studies department here at Manchester.
